Elderberry-

Elderberries are one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world and have been used for many centuries. Elderberries are particularly rich in flavonoids, powerful antioxidants, that work to keep the immune system strong and resilient. These tiny berries are are anti-viral and packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and Potassium. Elderberries also support heart health, are high in fiber and help reduce inflammation throughout the body. 


Ginger Root-

Ginger has a long history of use in various forms of cooking and medicine. It has been used to help help fight the flu and common cold, help with digestion, and reduce nausea to name a few. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. 

Rosehips-

Rose hips are the fruit of the rose plant. Rosehips are known for being one of natures most concentrated sources of Vitamin C, containing over 60 times the amount of Vitamin C as an orange. Rose hips also contain a good amount of Vitamin A, plus other important nutrients like Vitamin E, Vitamin K, manganese, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Rosehips are also a rich source of antioxidants.

Echinacea-

Echinacea is flowering plant that grows in the U.S. and Canada, and it's been used as medicine for centuries. Echinacea plants contain an impressive variety of active compounds, such as caffeic acid, alkamides, phenolic acids, rosmarinic acid, polyacetylenes and many more. Studies have linked echinacea and their compounds to many health benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved immunity and lower blood sugar levels.

Sweet Cinnamon Chips- 

Cinnamon is more than just flavor, it is full of beneficial compounds that offer various health benefits. Cinnamon is high in antioxidants, particularly polyphenol, which fights off oxidation by free radicals. Cinnamon has potent antibacterial and antifungal properties, and helps reduce inflammation in the body.

 Cloves-

Cloves are best known as a sweet and aromatic spice, but have also been used in medicine. Cloves are high in antioxidants and contain essential vitamins and minerals, such as manganese and Vitamin K. Cloves contain antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that help kill bacteria.

 

Preparation-

Place a large pot with 7 cups of distilled water over medium to medium high heat. Once the water begins to simmer, make sure the muslin bag is tied tightly, and carefully add the muslin bag filled with herbs to the pot. Allow the herbs to simmer and steep for approximately 45 - 60 minutes. When the mixture reduces by half, remove from heat and allow it too cool to room temperature. Once mixture has cooled down, squeeze the excess liquid from the muslin bag. Next add 2 cups of your desired sweetener. Traditionally, elderberry syrup is sweetened with local organic honey, due to its additional medicinal properties, however it can also can be sweetened with agave, maple syrup, date syrup or sugar to be suitable for vegans and toddlers. The sweetener is added to preserve shelf stability and give the mixture a thicker syrup like consistency. Store your elderberry syrup in a sterile glass jar, with a lid, in the refrigerator.

 

Dosage

For children ages 2 and up take 1/2 - 1 teaspoon twice a day to boost immunity. At first sign of illness or to treat illness such as cold, flu, bronchitis, fever, coughs etc. take 1 teaspoon every 4-6 hours until symptoms are gone.

For adults, take 1 tablespoon twice a day to boost immunity. At first sign of illness or to treat illness such as cold, flu, bronchitis, fever, coughs etc, take 1 tablespoon every 4-6 hours until symptoms are gone.
